What is coming up?
Plans are underway for a workshops in 2010 leading into a major production mid-year 2011 inspired by the Tawharanui Regional Park in conjunction with TOSSI.
What's been happening ?
In order to get us in the mood for some street theatre, directly after the AGM, Richard Boyle led us in an improvisation workshop which got all the able bodied moving and was great fun.
Friday 5th of June 2009 was World Environment Day and METS was involved in tree planting and other activities on the day based at the Snells Beach Community Hall.
A three day scripting and performance workshop was held during the Summer holidays with 21 children writing a script, making costumes and putting on a play at the Mahurangi College hall. A great time was had by all the participants.
Over 200 people from environmental community organisations across the ARC region had a Christmas party in December 2008. A group of 12 people from METS went to present an abridged version of River Magic - thoroughly enjoyed by all - many congratulatory notes have been received.
WHAT'S THE STORY WITH TAWHARANUI ?
A small gathering of members met at Tawharanui and went on a guided walk and some stayed to do a spot of tree planting in the Mangatawhiri Valley wetland after lunch. A very enjoyable day for all those who attended.
River Magic - flowed again!
Back in the July school holidays 2008 the River Magic play was put on at the Mahurangi College hall and was greatly enjoyed by those who attended - especially the raucous Saturday night crowd.
The cast and crew all had a great time and are looking forward to the next show. Watch this site for details.
We will get some photos up as soon as possible.
Synopsis of River MagicFollow the adventures of the raindrops as they journey down the Mahurangi River in the company of Tree Guardian and Lily. Meet the magical creatures living in and beside the river and in the estuary. You will see koura, eels, birds and fishermen as well as some of the more unpleasant things that end up in the river such as slime, silt and ooze. This show was an extravaganza of acting, music and dance.More>> |

Sponsorship
If you would like to sponsor the Magic Earth Theatre, we would be delighted to hear from you.
This society has now been operating for three years. Putting on a show like this requires a lot of hard work and dedication particularly from the parents. We would like to be able to have a paid part time administrator to help with funding applications, producing newsletters and helping on the publicity side and this is one area for which we are seeking sponsorship.
We will offer a variety of benefits to sponsors that could include adverts or links on this website to their own website, tickets to the performance and major sponsors would appear on promotional materials and in press releases. Please email Deniece Gannaway.
parents - become an actor or help backstage
We like to include all the family in the production, indeed it would be impossible to put on the show without parents.
How you would like to be involved in the production, and help w
ith rehearsals & costumes? This is also parents' chance to star – we need some adults to take some small roles as part of our show – so please – don’t be shy – join in the fun on stage.
So how can you take part?
We would welcome help with producing and painting the props for the stage. In particular, during the week of the performance, help in moving the set to Orewa and setting it up and also breaking it down after the performances. If you could transport the props please let us know,
Backstage, at the dress rehearsals and performances, we need help from parents and guardians with costume changes and makeup. We would like enough people doing this so that everyone can take time off to watch a performance from the stage.
Of course if you are a musician or composer we can find even more roles for you!
